چکیده

It is well known that patients with lymphoproliferative disorders have an altered immune status and are susceptible to opportunistic and non-opportunistic infections. The authors report the first case of a patient with advanced Hodgkin's disease who developed pneumonia caused by the animal pathogen Bordetella bronchiseptica. The most likely source ofthis organism was the patient's dog. While B. bronchiseptica is often responsible for outbreaks of pneumonia and septicaemia in wild and domestic animals, its role and incidence in human infections is not known. It is felt that patients with underlying lymphoproliferative diseases and pneumonia should be questioned about any contact with animals.

Type Six Secretion System of Bordetella bronchiseptica and Adaptive Immune Components Limit Intracellular Survival During Infection

The Type Six Secretion System (T6SS) is required for Bordetella bronchiseptica cytotoxicity, cytokine modulation, infection, and persistence. However, one-third of recently sequenced Bordetella bronchiseptica strains of the predominantly human-associated Complex IV have lost their T6SS through gene deletion or degradation. Since most human B. bronchiseptica infections occur in immunocompromised...

Bordetella bronchiseptica or Brucella: report of one case misidentification and review of the literature about Bordetella bronchiseptica infection

Investigation of a clinical case of Brucella infection, in which the cause initially indicated Bordetella bronchiseptica, using automated identification techniques prompted a retrospective analysis of previously published cases of B. bronchiseptica infections in China and elsewhere. B. bronchiseptica infection is rarely found in humans, but more frequently in animals. Automated microbial identi...

Pasteurella multocida and Bordetella bronchiseptica infections in rabbits.

The natural history of infection with Pasteurella multocida and Bordetella bronchiseptica in domestic rabbits was studied prospectively at a commercial rabbitry. At weaning, about 25% of rabbits had nasal infections with P. multocida and 75% had infections with B. bronchiseptica. Infection of weanling rabbits paralleled nasal infections of their dams. The proportion of rabbits with both infecti...

Relapsing Peritonitis Caused by Bordetella bronchiseptica in Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis Patient: A Case Report

Bordetella (B) bronchiseptica is a common veterinary pathogen, but has rarely been implicated in human infections. Most patients with B. bronchiseptica infections are compromised clinically such as in patients with a malignancy, AIDS, malnutrition, or chronic renal failure. We experienced a case of relapsing peritonitis caused by B. bronchiseptica associated with continuous ambulatory peritonea...

Identifying the Age Cohort Responsible for Transmission in a Natural Outbreak of Bordetella bronchiseptica

Identifying the major routes of disease transmission and reservoirs of infection are needed to increase our understanding of disease dynamics and improve disease control. Despite this, transmission events are rarely observed directly. Here we had the unique opportunity to study natural transmission of Bordetella bronchiseptica--a directly transmitted respiratory pathogen with a wide mammalian h...
